12-28 February
Remember New Years Eve? Nah, neither can I but I get the feeling it went way too fast and came to quite an anticlimax. The Chinese know a thing or two about parties and that's why the Chinese New Year is a 16 day festival and it's not just an explosion of pyrotechnics and alcohol.
Sydney's Chinese New Year Festival will see in the Year of the Tiger with parades, markets, cooking demonstrations and tea appreciation. Centred around Chinatown in downtown Sydney and Belmore Park opposite Central Station access to the Festival's events is a cinch.
One of the highlights of the Festival will be the Markets in Belmore Park on Friday to Sunday 12-14 February. You can browse 50 stalls of Chinese arts and crafts as well as tuck into some of your favorite Chinese culinary delights. There'll also be a screening of two Chinese short films. If you're into tea, make sure you book into a Tea Appreciation Workshop where a Tea Master will take you through a historical and tasteful journey through China's tea culture and tradition.
