The Inner city suburb of Surry Hills is a fertile ground for local design, local corner pubs and splendid Australian and International food. So when the Surry Hill neighbourhood throws open their doors and dusts off the welcome matt for the rest of the city, you'd better march right through the door.
This Saturday the Surry Hills Festival will bring the best of Surry Hills together with a mosaic of live entertainment and dj's, 60 market stalls and a variety of food and activities. One of the annual highlights is the Pick Up Poo Race as part of the Surry Hills Dog Show-Off.
While you're there, don't hesitate to duck into some of the institutions that make Surry Hills what it is. The Bourke Street Bakery serves up the best gourmet meat pies and sausage rolls in Sydney and wash it down with a cold beer at the Cricketer's Arms, one of the most homely pub's in Sydney.
