Haven’t left the city limits of Sydney? That’s cool, I don’t blame you, you’re in the best city in the world! Although if you were going to leave Sydney you’d be hard pressed to go past Australia’s other city, our southern friend old Melbourne town.
If Sydney’s that beautiful girl at the bar everyone wants to talk to, Melbourne is the funky chick at the bar buying beers for her new friends. Melbourne’s cityscape and atmosphere is quintessentially but with a twist of Europe. The Trams and bustling laneway bar/café scene give Melbourne an old world feel and the people are open and friendly. High art mingles with street art at Federation Square and one of the highlights of a visit is to take a closer look at both.
Melbournians are crazy about sport. What Sport? From the Australian Open to the Australian Formula One Grand Prix and anything in between. No trip to Melbourne is complete without a visit to the “G”. The MCG is the heart of sport in Melbourne and hosts Aussie Rules football during the winter and cricket in Summer. Do yourself a favour and get some tickets, grab a beer and watch whatever’s on.
If you’ve got longer than a weekend, make some time to get out of Melbourne to see the Great Ocean Road, The Twelve Apostles, Bells Beach or Phillip Island.
