Go Feed A Fish!
posted by Murray on 8 Apr 2010
Life underwater is pretty peaceful; the water is clear and warm, the fish move at a leisurely pace around beautiful coral reefs and all the stress of books, exams and city traffic is a million miles away. After trying my hand at an introductory scuba dive, I decided life underwater was for me.

If you've never tried scuba diving before, an Introductory Dive get's you under the water without all the fuss of taking a 3 day certification course. You'll go down with a certified dive instructor and only a couple of other novice divers. After a couple of minutes practicing breathing through the regulator, some ear equalisation and a big O.K. hand signal, you're off on a guided underwater tour of the reef.

The first few minutes feels like your Darth Vader on the Deathstar as your concentrate on sucking air and blowing it out. But once you're relaxed and start to breath naturally, you'll start to look around and really enjoy the weightlessness of the experience. The first thing you'll notice is you've gained the respect of the fish around you. No longer are you some clumsy mammal splashing around on the surface breathing through a snorkel - you're underwater, at eye level with the fish, and they seem to dig it.

If you've ever wanted to see how the fish live but the prospect of a 3 day Dive course bores you - get on board a charter boat out of Cairns and try an Introductory Dive!
