Sunday 7 March
Ever walked down the street, saw a piece of rubbish and wondered "who picks that up?" Chances are if the rubbish didn't make it to the bin in the first instance, it's destined for a nomadic life of blowing in the wind until it finds one of those nice little storm-water drains and disappears out of our sight. Phew, it's gone!
Not quite! When it rains all that rubbish hidden down the storm-water drains is flushed out into our big, wide, beautiful Harbour and ocean. Not a real attractive scenario huh?
This Sunday is the 20th Annual Clean Up Australia Day where hundreds of thousands of Australians get stuck in and Clean Up their local environment by collecting and removing rubbish. It's a great way to get involved with the locals and put a little back into a country that will deliver for you all year.
If you want to get involved, get online at Clean Up Australia and search for a Clean Up Site near you. You'll be provided with all the tools and safety equipment to clean up your area and you'll meet some Aussie's passionate about their local area. Not to mention you'll get that warm and fuzzy feeling that money just can't buy.
If you're not up for a full-on clean up effort, just pick up one piece of rubbish. Easy! If everyone in Australia picks up one piece of rubbish, that's 20 million less pieces of junk left hanging around. Whaw! Think of that!
